TRAINING

There are various training schemes for unemployed people, aimed at differing age groups and needs.

Young people may have access to work based learning which is government funded and can include Modern Apprenticeships, NVQ’s, life skills training and study time.

The New Deal comprises a number of schemes with compulsory aspects aimed at training people who are unemployed and claiming benefits, and classified into the following groups:

  • Aged between 18-24 years.
  • Aged 25 years and over.
  • Aged 50 years and over.

The New Deal for single parents with children beneath school age is a voluntary programme, as is the scheme for disabled people.

For those people claiming job seekers allowance, certain schemes are compulsory, otherwise benefit payment may be affected.
